Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 25 Review (S2E1)
Thursday began a journey through the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, except instead of living through the present with Yuji, Megumi and Nobara becoming First Grade sorcerers, but instead through Gojo Satoru’s school life which in the first episode has already brought up some really interesting concepts.
For starters, we have a mission given to Mei Mei and Utahime to investigate a massive mansion/hotel where a cursed spirit is an inhabitant. They find out that they are experiencing an infinite loop as they can not move out of this specific corridor no matter how far they run. They devise a plan to run in opposite directions which does break the loop, but also sends Utahime flying and into a dangerous situation. She is knocked out but wakes up to Gojo as he has been sent to recover the 2 girls, as they had been out on that mission for 2 days. The interesting thing about that is the loop made them feel like they were there for like 5 minutes.
We then get the introduction of a man who has shocked me as the revelation of Geto being a good friend of Gojo to begin with was not something I was expecting at all. For me this has got to be the most interesting plotline in the story as the episode actually began with a teaser of Gojo confronting him over something he may have done. We then get the to-be principal Yaga coming into the PE hall to assign a mission to Gojo and Geto, a mission to retrieve the Star Plasma Vessel, the woman who Tengen can use for his immortality technique without risking transforming into something greater than humanity. There are 2 Curse User companies after the Vessel, Q and the Time Vessel Association, and so the strongest second years being Gojo and Geto they are sent to retrieve this girl. They succeed in their mission as they outsmart the members of Q, and Gojo straight up scares one of them by his name alone, before we get the next huge plot point. We see members of the Time Vessel Association offering a man a contract to kill the Star Plasma Vessel, in which he accepts. The man is referred to as Zenin (One of the famous 3 clans of Jujutsu Sorcery), who responds by saying he has taken his wife’s name and is now a Fushiguro. This mean is Toji Fushiguro, Megumi’s dad. HUGE amount of content that could be born out of that one revelation, we know that Tsumiki and Megumi grew up together after their parents essentially left them for nothing and so we might just get a whole lot of important information about Megumi’s life.
As you can tell, I think the narrative of this episode is top notch and lays the foundation for a very good arc, even though it’s just a short one I’m expecting it to be a really fiery one. I also think the main feature of this as an anime episode is the actual animation itself which I think is flawless. Some of the angles they use, specifically when utahime is checking the rooms in the mansion you get a first person view which is so well done it feels like you’re playing a Call of Duty Campaign mission, it’s genuinely stunning. The art is great and it still keeps the goofy and silly undertones that made season 1 so unique, which I was hoping for since Gojo is the centrepiece of this arc and he is by far the goofiest character in the whole series.
I really enjoyed this episode, I think it was nearly flawless and I would maybe say the only thing it’s stopped from being perfect by would be a comparison to the opening season 1 episode, because that one had a major event happen in the first episode. That doesn’t need to happen by any means but it definitely left an impression on me because of that.
I'm Feeling a 4.5/5 rating for this episode and I can’t wait for this week’s episode.
